As a full rewrite of YUP, YUM evolved primarily to update and manage Red Hat Linux systems used at the Duke University Department of Physics by Seth Vidal and Michael Stenner.Vidal continued to contribute to YUM until his tragic death in a Durham, North Carolina bicycle accident on 8 July 2013.Unfortunately I haven’t had any older images to try to update from not-so-recent image. But notice that with zsync you can also go “back in time” from a more recent image to an older one (the last line). As you can see, zsync works great for Ubuntu images. When updating very recent images, you can save about 90% of bandwidth (and time).Install My SQL and NDOutils # yum -y install mysql mysql-devel mysql-server gcc-c # yum -y install ndoutils* # chkconfig mysqld on # service mysqld start # chkconfig ndo2db on Start a shell to My SQL and create and grant access to a database # mysql -uroot -p mysql in “EVENT BROKER MODULE(S)” section broker_module=/usr/lib64/nagios/brokers/config_file=/etc/nagios/Configure the /etc/nagios/ndo2file, and change the below three lines db_user=root db_pass=password debug_level=-1 Start ndo2db # service ndo2db start Restart Nagios # service nagios restart Check the log file if it works # tail -f /var/log/messages From the above, it did not work Disable SElinux, restart ndo2db and nagios, check the log file again. # setenforce 0 # service ndo2db restart # service nagios restart # tail -f /var/log/messages # tail -f /var/log/ndoutils/ndo2db.debug After it worked, configured the /etc/nagios/ndo2file, set “debug_level=1”, restart ndu2db and nagios.
You simply generate a small .zsync file on the server for each big file you offer users to download.
I’ve installed Nagios as my past post “Install and configure Nagios on Fedora 14 using YUM“.
Now I want to store all configuration and event data into My SQL, because the development team wanted to design application to use all these information.
For Fedora 12 Alpha images you can still save more than half when updating from RC1 to RC2 and you will be extremely pleased when updating from RC2 to Alpha Final.
Although those two files are not the same, they are For Fedora 12 nightly composes the savings number is apparently not so great as for Ubuntu images.
